Here's a song for all you eager disco explorers. My newest vehicle for transport is by the late seventies hit by the

Crown Heights Affair, "Galaxy of Love".

The song opens different than the typical disco song. It sets us up delicately, with wind surf ambiance and piano tinklings, something that could be a whole song in its self, preparing us for a long flight. You take off and you realize that your flying very high and fast, with the SFX of space whizzing by your head. And with The high heaven vocals, the song soars bright and clear like a beautiful cartoon. This large group of hard working musicians play with vigor, and take the pleasure in bringing you higher than you've ever been. This is a Band of the Clouds, demanding you to dance with it's stern Horn Sorcery and disgusting Bass breakdown. The featured Synth Lazer even takes A Solo, flashing like a rainbow gradient gamma ray. And then suddenly, the band suddenly brings it all to stop, leaving you to drop from the highest point in the sky! Enjoy.

Halloween was crazy. I'm still recovering in fact. Lots of Disco, not lots of space on the dance floor. Said party was put together by my good buddy Ben Marcus, aka DJ Jean Shorts. He's known for providing patrons with heat suitable for doing rails in the Delorean. Inspired by this picture we found of Snow White doin' Snow White, It's In Your Blood is about the reaction to rhythm. Dance music is human nature as he says, and this one isn't so much for the bedroom. It's for ass shaking, riding into the club on a white horse, and well if your into that kind of thing, cocaine. Whatever might be in your blood.

The skeleton of what is to me THE Houston song, Fat Pat's Tops Drop presented the way it was originally intended to be heard. I love finding these little gems scattered throughout all my Screw tapes, which serve as Texas Rap history books and proof of Davis' love for music. I think I've already posted a few tracks from On a Pint, which is one of my favorites. Slow burning soul, weird 80s funk, and Big Mello.

There is this dumpster by my house that reads "Disco Sucks" next to "Joan Jett and the Blackhearts" both written with a paint pen. Fuck that noise, along all those record burning White Sox fans in July of 1979. I live on the Southside so I of course have no problem with the baseball team, but I think Harari would agree with me that partying to Disco>hating Disco. This group was from Johannesburg, and LeBaron I believe is the dude behind the great Beat Electric, the site I stole this great track from.

Maybe someday I'll actually put more effort to have more of a focus on this blog, but this summer has been full of Bounce, Go Go, Reggada and Disco so far, in no particular order.

A gospel group from Harlem probably not down with doing blow off silver spoons and riding white horses through Studio 54, but their music back in the 70s definitely had some cocaine sheen to it. I mean I'm not wanting to break out the dollar bill in the pews but damn, talk about Sunday morning fever. This is the Soul Glo of Christ, shed for you.

When a Music Concret monster failed to get past the bouncers at Studio 54 for looking like a square, feelings were hurt. "Do you know who the fuck I am?!!!" didn't work on the crowd who most likely never heard Le Voyage or any of his recordings of brain waves. I have a suspicion that after being called uncool by the New York elite, Pierre Henry retreated back to France and created his wacked out disco record Machine Danse in spite. Sore asshole or not, the record and especially the track I'm highlighting sound almost like early Dance Mania records, take note of the strange whimpering similar to DJ Milton. Really can't give any advice on what to do with this other than maybe having a massive whip-its party, preferably in a dark closet by yourself.

Too Pure

Pilooski - Mother Sky (edit) (from Dark & Lovely vol. 2 12" 2006)

Great edit of the Krautrock classic by Paris cut and paster Pilooski. Not a shit to gold conversion a la Terje, but more a freakout turned appropriate dancefloor staple. In no way a replacement for Can, but interesting none the less. My only complain is that its length. The original was 15 minutes, and I was kinda hoping for that to be doubled.

A future guest poster put me up on this whole disco edit thing. I put on Wade's aka Todd Terje's reworking of a Canned Heat song a few weeks ago when I got home from a party and woke up on the floor with my headphones still on. You don't really notice what's going on until you realize you've been listening to the same song for double its length. I never thought I'd be put in a trance by one of the corniest songs from the 70s.
