Slackk - Eski House Mix

DOWNLOAD (archive.org link)

Fantastic mix detailing Wiley synth stabs making babies with Caribbean drumming, conceived to the sweet tones of Ginuwine. I've never been able to keep up with England, the place where music nerds actually seem to be the same people that actually care. It's really exciting to me how much bubbling exists within, for it makes my obsession with it feel like one that actually might be relevant after all.

Another bomb dropped on me by the club terrorists over at Lower End Spasm.

"Fantasy cotton candy synths on a downhill slope leading right into the mouth of a beast traveling at one-hundred and sixty BPMs" would be my description if I was stoned with Byron Coley right now. Since I'm not, and this caters towards the club and not the acid casualties crowd I'll settle by advising you to use the track list as a road map from London to Chicago. This mix makes me happy because it proves that the US and Europe should be working together more closely to create transatlantic genres than it has lately. And I'm not talking about anybody aping anybodies style, I'm talking about making music that has no central location but existing in a space that stretches thousands of miles and isn't just the internet.

Believing

Manara - Miracles 2010

2009 was a great year for the Night Slugs crew that was obvious even if you never showed up to any of their parties. I've never been to London, but the output spawned from last year definitely got me more curious about the sound these guys push for. My awareness of UK Funky borderlines on ignorance, but when seasoned with some familiar territory like these guys tend to do I sink into the mix like a warm bath. Not that I'm afraid to listen to a set that only contains the unknown (quite the opposite), but hearing how well DJ Deeon fits in is exciting to this Chicagoan. Manara hooked it up with a short but sweet fix for the habit, and now we can stay warm inside with headphones. Sure, a hot sweaty club can be relief from the cold, but have you ever gotten drunk and slipped on the ice on your way home? Not fun.

Tracklist:

Paula Abdul – Cold Hearted (Dubstramental)
Roska- Gone to a Better Place

DJ Gregory – Klappa
DJ Gazzeto – Cruel 22
Shaun-D – Spanish Fly (Kingdom remix)

New Lower End Spasm Mix

DOWNLOAD

A great paen to the tom tom sound of Chicago, complete with those same hi-hats found throughout the Dance Mania catalog. A reminder that House music was Ghetto before Ghetto House announced that the bitch was naggin'. OK, so it's not all Windy City material at all, but a very tasteful mix of the 808 spectrum by the UK's Jam City. I'm not trying to get on some snobby shit, or scowling at anything outside of the land of Lincoln, but it sure is refreshing after hearing so many a mix containing shitty Major Lazer mixes and bland Baltimore House. Points for the Deeon joint too.

Dear God

Untold - Anaconda (from 12" 2009)

Been a while since I posted any sort of Dubstep or Funky business up here, and what better way to end that streak with this apocalyptic son of a bitch. Is there a genre called Doomstep yet? How in the FUCK do you dance to this?! I'd probably run away if I heard this at a club. The bass is almost on a Ghetto House tip at times, but crawling on the floor rather than four on the floor. This track scares the fuck out of me, but it's also one of the best things I've heard all year.

Bowly - Mamiña 2009

Great little Funky House banger by Montreal's Bowly, complete with Chilean Carnivel band. I'm really into the hi-ends on this one, and that metallic Soca jingle had been ringing in my head all day. This kind of dying marching band sample makes me think of Big Tuck's Playing No Games and the batteries low trumpet sound. Much love to the man behind this track for sending me this my way. Canada, I always got your back.

Follow suit and send tracks my way people!
